Cloning a time entry can be helpful in a number of different ways.

Why clone time entries, expenses or flat fees?

Cloning offers several benefits to a firm:

  • Time Saving - Instead of creating new entries repeatedly for identical tasks or clients, cloning streamlines the process, saving time across the board.

  • Multiple Users - Multiple users can clone entries to report the same time spent on an item.

  • Different Case - Adjust Contact/Matter details easily when cloning entries.

  • Different Day - Cloning to record the same duration on different days, simply adjust the date.

What Cloning Does

Cloning a time entry, expense or flat fee provides a modal where you can create a new record based on the existing data entered on the cloned record. It pre-populates all entered data from the original record.

Note: Cloning a record associated to an Activity (Task or Event) will make the newly cloned record also associated to that Activity.

How To

This section will guide you through the steps to clone a time entry. These steps will be the same for Flat Fees and Expenses.

1) Navigate to the Contact or Matter that holds the original time entry. Additionally, you can go to the Time Entries grid that houses all time entries.

2) Click on the "Time" tab for that Contact or Matter.

3) Hover over the time entry you wish to clone and click on the "clone" option.

4) From here you can scroll to the bottom and save right away

Or

You can make any necessary adjustments, such as, assigning to a different Contact or Matter, changing the user it was billed by, or the date.

5) Click the "Save" button.

What Happens Now?

Now that time entry, expense or flat fee has been duplicated within the system, and will retain all the same information as the original.

Common Questions

1) What if I already billed the entry I want to clone?

A: When cloning an entry that has already been billed, the clone will be considered new and be marked "billable" in the system instead. You have the option of changing this entry to 'Non-Billable' within the clone time entry model before saving.

2) Can I tell if an entry has been cloned?

A: No, a cloned entry will look exactly like it's original and will not have any indicator that it was cloned.

3) Can I batch clone?

A: No, we are unable to select multiple entries and clone them. Only one entry at a time may be cloned. However you can clone a entry as many times as you'd like. If you'd like to create many entries at once, we recommend learning about Multiple-Time Entries here.

4) Can I edit a cloned entry?

A: Yes! A cloned entry will behave just like a regular entry, it can be edited and adjusted however you need.
