Please note the LEDES billing feature is only available on our business subscription plan. To learn more about our various plans, please click here.

Some lawyers are required by courts to turn in a special report through LEDES invoices.

To turn this feature on, please follow the steps below:

1) Go to your settings page, and click on "Invoice Options", or click here

2) Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the "LEDES Invoicing" section found under the "Invoice Templates" section. Turn on the option "Enable LEDES 98B Invoices".

Turning this option on will show the "LEDES Settings" option when creating or editing contacts in the future.

This way, you can decide per contact if you want them to adhere to the LEDES billing style or not.

3) To enable the "LEDES Settings" within a new contact automatically, set "LEDES Setting for New Contacts" to "Yes".
Pro-Tip: If over half of your client base will adhere to LEDES billing, turn this option to "Yes". Otherwise, keep this option as "No".

4) To select a specific set of codes you may be required to use, turn on the "Use UTBMS Task Codes" option, then select the specific codes your firm is required to use. Then, click "Save".
Note: You may also decide to make task codes required when tracking time. This can be done using the toggle below.

What happens now?

Clients with "Enable LEDES 98B Invoices" as "Yes" will have a new required field called "LEDES Client ID" that must be filled before saving the contact.

Matters belonging to contacts with LEDES enabled will also have a "LEDES Client Matter ID" field that must be filled out before saving the matter.

When adding a new time entry for a contact with LEDES enabled, you will see a brand new field called "UTBMS Task Code". Simply use the drop down to select the specific code needed for this time entry. Then, click "Save".

Note: This field may or may not be required based on your LEDES settings.

This field will also appear when creating multiple time entries as well, but only on time entries belonging to contacts with LEDES enabled.

You can add a unique TimeKeeper ID for any of your users when creating or editing a user. This ID is completely optional and leaving this field blank will prompt PracticePanther to populate the LEDES file with either the time keepers full name or initials.

This field can also be found in each users Personal Settings page.

After you save and open an invoice for a contact with LEDES enabled, you will have a new option found under the "Actions" button called "Download as LEDES".
This will download the necessary file to be uploaded wherever necessary.

Enjoy!
